As we grow old, we tend to lose our capability to memorize things. We
take supplements, have a rich diet, and do everything possible but nothing
really can stop the process of aging. But things can still be memorized and
done in an easiest way possible by tricking our brain before it tricks us into
procrastination by following these fascinating methods:
Devoting the fixed hours:
Famous writer Chris Bailey wrote in his book called “The Productivity
project” that we get the ideas/solutions that we are looking for the time we
are not doing it. Suppose you are working on a project that takes a lot of
concentration and some original ideas like writing a book. The time you are so
involved in it your brain will not really give you the best ideas specially
when there is creativity involved.
Let us understand this with an example suppose for me if I take out 1
hour daily to write this article and not more than that then I am limiting
myself so that I accomplish more than I do when I take hours to complete it. In
that manner I will devote my best to that task each day when it is time.
Consistency is everything:
You can master any skill with consistency. Just like an impression
form on a surface with a consistent flow of water when you consistently work on
a problem for days without missing one you can achieve your most desirable goal
in life. Your muscle memory builds up and your memory improves by staying
consistent.
Define a priority list:
It is crucial for your productivity to define top 3 – 5 priority tasks
that you do throughout the day to make sure that will not get distracted and will
not compromise at all with the task on which defines the word productivity for
you.
Ego Depletion is Real:
If it is so hard for you to sit and focus on your task you might be
lacking enough will to complete it and this is where ego depletion comes in.
This is the indication that your brain might need some glucose doses. Make the
rule of having different healthy snack each hour. That may include smoothies,
lemon tea, lemonade, nuts, oats, etc.
Do it in chunks:
first step is the difficult generally the steps later are the easiest. Divide
the task into small steps so that you do not feel like pushing it away make it
so simple that it will not look like time consuming or tedious.
Keep distractions away:
Keep your phone at the not reachable place or the place where it takes effort
for you reach. Your brain would like to avoid that rather than making an
attempt to reach for it.
Also uninstall distracting apps like games or any social media that you
are addicted to or any app when use you do not realize when a huge amount of
your precious time got wasted.
Turn off unnecessary notifications from apps like twitter, reddit,
Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Make a Later list:
Note down things that
are keep poking in your head or the tasks that you were supposed to do. Your
working memory will be vacant, and you will be able to process things faster
and efficiently. In this way you will not forget about the task and your task
in hand will also not get affected.
Reward Yourself:
If nothing works then rewarding yourself to make it
happen works every time. When we face a chronic procrastination, it is really
hard for us to move and complete the task so when we give ourselves a reward
every time, we do it our brain releases dopamine which makes us want to complete
that challenging task.
